House of Many Hands is a significant ruin in the Monument Valley
area. The abundance of hand prints at this site gives the ruin its name. The most
common are simple, positive handprints made by simply placing the hand in paint and
transferring the impression to the rock. Less common and more difficult is the negative
handprint made by wetting an area of the rock, placing the hand over the wet rock and
then blowing dry pigment over the hand where the pigments adhere only to the wet
surface around the hand.
