This particular scene in Death Valley can only
be seen early in the morning. After the sun has risen, the dark shadows from the mountainside
rising to Dante's View disappear. When the air is very still, perfect reflections of the
vistas surrounding Badwater are easily seen.
Ansel Adam's famous photograph taken at Badwater is from
the other side of the pool, facing south. I felt that, at this time, the reflection of the Chocolate
Mountains was particularly interesting with the sharp triangles of sunlight and shadow.
